also, hptdc is not cheap, its sarkari but expensive, do not take toy train, its superslow, goes only frm kalka to shimla, which is a little more than 100 km and takes the entire day, jaipur-delhi-shimla-manali is doable if u know the route, in jan there will be snow in manali, atleast upper area, but dont worry, roads are ok, no snow on road till manali, but u may miss, rohtang pass as its closed, even now, u can come back from manali to kullu via naggar road, naggar is sooo beautifull, u will fall in love with the place, less ppl more orchids, forests and u will see winter in its glory, i traveled a lot in the belt, u can do this trip here is the math:
chandigarh-shimla- spnd 1-2 days in shimla
shimla manali- start in morn, reach in after noon
manali to jaipur = aprox 850kms, u calculateReport Abuse
Hi there frnd,
i have traveled that route extensively, so can guide you a bit.
if you want, you can take mandor express/delhi jaisalmer exp or intercity to delhi, from there, you can take shatabdi till chandigarh, or take a volvo directly to shimla, frm delhi to shimla, volvo is arnd 550-600/- not sure abt latest rates as i travel by car, in shimla, you can stay in a budget hotel, there are lots of those, lots of guides, but they ask for tips, from shimla, there is a highway, NH88, which you can take to travel to manali directly, not sure if there are luxury buses on that route, you can take a taxi too, or a regular HPTC bus, it will go through kullu, in manali, there are cheap hotels in old manali.
from manali, take volvo to delhi, and train/volvo back to jaipur.
do not miss chail, when you go to shimla, on way to shimla, take route through chail from kandaghat, its beautiful and the forest is a pleasure, the road ends at kufri and shimla is near, msg me 4 email@example.comReport Abuse
I am planning for a Backpacking trip. with PWD rest houses and Army locations...
just want to wander around in rishikesh and places .. will make a detailed day wise plan.
it doesnt answer ur question .. but maybe we could team up.
do let me know .. ah .. i plan to do this . in the second week of Jan..
I dont think January is the right time to visit, if u can wait till april.. else u ll miss Rohtang... anyway in January, u ll really feel jittery, since it will be rock cold... u can spend 2 days in SHimla and 2 days in Manali... i dont think it will cost u more than 15k if u r traveling in group.
Staying at HPTDC hotel is good bet. You may find all the information about HPTDC run htoels: http://www.hptdc.nic.in/tariff.htm. This will give you a clear idea. You may also opt for HRTC buses. Find more info here: http://hrtc.gov.in/ Report Abuse
For Shimla (2 days), kullu-Manali (3-4 days). Stay at Manali not kullu cause ther is no major sightseen there.
if you have time go by train (Toy train takes more time as compare to bus). Better to take Bus from HTDC volvo from Delhi to shimla then shimla to manali. you can complete your visit within 20-25000 budget for a couple including 3 star Hotel, Volvo, Sightseen, b/f and dinner.
If you required this package just call (Mod. Note: No. & e-mail ID removed
) I am not a travel agent but can assist to you for better deal with different travel agency with all safety. Report Abuse

Hi, since you have a limited budget I suggest you to train travel for your journey. It's cheap and comfortable as compared to the bus travel. You may take a train to Delhi and then one to Chandigarh/Kalka. Take the toy train from Kalka to Shimla. The rest of the journey you have to do on bus. You have almost a week, you may take two days for Shimla and 3 days for Manali. If you want to stay cheap and comfortable, book HPTDC hotels both in Shimla and Manali. All the best!Report Abuse
