The distance from shimla to chandigarh is about 110 kms. and can be covered in 4 hours. buses and cars are easily available. About chandigarh one day is enough for sight seeing. this is the off season time for manali and shimla. The road from chandigarh to manali is excellent but it is bad from manali to shimla. So many trucks on both routes. Enjoy you journey and take plenty of warm clothes specially for manali. will be quite cold in the night and morning.

hi dear, I have done chandigarh manali shimla chandigarh in my own car so will not be possible to give you much info about the cab hire. But i will also suggest you the same route as polo Because on the last day you have to catch the train from chandigarh and that will be more convenient form shimla. The distance from chandigarh to manali is 300 kms and there are buses and cars easily available for hire. I will suggest you 3 days in manali because you need one full day to visit rohtang pass (if it is still open). Start as early in the morning as possible from manali if you are going to rohtang. Take a tavera or innova car. will cost you aroung Rs.2000 but you can bargain. The distance is 50 kms but it takes time as the road is bad. But the secenry is worth the efforts. You will not find it in any other hill station. The distance from manali to shimla is about 270 kms and takes nearly 10 hours. Two days are enough for shimla. not attractive as manali. Rest in next reply.

Shimla - the city is very crowded. If you have time and fond of nature, travel beyond Shimla. Narkanda is beautiful place and its around 2 hours from Shimla. Try Tethys resort at Narkanda. It has got very good location. HPTDC also has camps in Narkanda, they have 2 types of tents - swiss tents and wooden cottages. Both have bathrooms attached and very clean and neat. You may search for HPTDC site and see if you can get bookings. It would be economic as well.
Shopping tips in Shimla: Chinese handmade shoes & himachal wines - buy from the main market.

This is off season in hills, so you can save good money on hotels!

Chandigarh: 1-2 days
Shimla: 2-3 days
Manali: 2 days, since Rohtang will be closed.

Dont have contact no for Chandigarh but cabs from there to shimla come costly. A train from kalka to shimla will be a great experience.

Shared taxis from shimla to manali are not the norm, though coincidences can happen! the road to manali from shimla is in quite a bad shape so take a luxury bus atleast. cabs, again, will come costly-about Rs. 12-15 per km. negotiations are a must.

hope this helps...

I would also agree that Chandigarh-Manali-Shima is the best option. For chandigarh - one day is enough (half day set aside for rock garden). There is a HP tourism Volvo from Chandigarh (not sure if it runs during off season)overnight which will put you in Manali in the morning.
Manali is maximum 2-3 days (one day at Rohtang and another day or two for other places).
Manali to shimla - taxi is best and it takes 6 hrs at most. Shimla is again 2-3 days (One day at Kufri, another at Naldehra if required and another for other places, evenings at the Mall).
The time you have selected is off season and Manali will be definitely very cold. You will not be allowed to go all the way to Rohtang pass but you will be taken to the closest snow point

Hi IT,
Would have no idea about cabs bacues i always take my car. My advice would be 2-3 days in shimla and 3-4 days in manali if u have time by your side. Shimla is crowded now but u must visit kufri and mashobra...rest just moving around...if you love nature and wish to stay away from the crowd have a look at camp potters hill, 3 km off shimla. Manali is one of the best hill stations, take a wake thru old manali and the villages, Stay at old manali can be cheap and peaceful also. trip to rotang pass, hidimba temple and manikaran-for the hot springs. it a great itenanry..am sure u wud love it....

Cant ans the specifics, but I would go with Chandigarh - Manali - Shimla as the itinerary as at the outset we're all energetic & enthu ... after that anyone tires.. Shimla to Chandigarh is shorter than Manali to Chandigarh :)
About the cabs, lots of operators at Chandigarh..esp near the Bus Terminus & the Railway Station.. A volvo from Chandigarh to Manali might be a good idea too.
About the Manali - Shimla stretch, that takes about 8 hours and again there are plenty of cabs from Manali (you can also share with folks) it costs about 4K one way for the full car.
hope this helps.
BTW your Nov dates are off season for sure.
