The roads are preety good. Only some places there are patches. The climbing of the hill starts from Abu Road Stn to Mount Abu. If you know driving on the hill then it is safe to drive. It takes min 4 and a half hour and max to 5 hrs to reach Mount Abu. There are budget hotels. We stayed at Hotel Lake Palace. I believe it was Rs.1500/- per night.

If you need to stay in Udaipur, you must stay at Devra. It is ranked very high and you have the view of the Aravalis , the monsoon palace and lake palace from there. I stayed there in Feb this year and fell in love with the place. It costs 4000/ day for two people including a fancy breakfast :) check the place out at http://devraudaipur.com/

BTW, The hill roads to Mt Abu start from Abu Road, once on the hills, drive carefully and do not over speed. 30 to 40 kmph is gr8 for safe driving on the hills. Follow the hill driving protocalls ie give way to the guy who is climbing up. Have a safe enjoyable trip... its been gr8 to be of help to you.

the road between Mount Abu and Udaipur is quite good and you can travel by car. though you may find small patches of bad road in between, but that should not be a concern given that it will be anywhere in India even in the best places in Delhi. it takes about 4-5 hours.

You can stay in Hotel Sun Rise near chungi in Mount Abu. It's a family run hotel, clean decent size room, very good staff. you may read my review on this hotel on oktatabyebye.com I booked thru MakeMyTRip and they had some nice deals on this hotel.

As far as I know, by and large, Rajasthan Roads are fine. i10 will take you there w/o problems. Look out for the RTDC Hotel at Mount Abu. Its decent and budjet acco. U can get more info from Bikaner House, Delhi. The RTDC guest house at mt Abu is well located. Book in Advance from Delhi itself. Wish u a Nice Trip
