10 day itinerary from Bangalore
Can somebody please help me plan a 10 day itinerary that would cover either of the below sets of destinations?
1)Pondicherry, Agra and Rajasthan.
2)Pondicherry, Agra and Uttaranchal.
I am planning to travel sometime this month end from Bangalore and I'll be grateful for any information, suggestions and inputs.
Answers to travel information on
Pondicherry in Pondicherry
Thank you Poornima for your valuable tips! and thanks once again Sonic! I have postponed my trip to the first or the second week of October and so my research is still on.
If you still are at research for this trip - my 2 cents.
I agree with your American friend that the Mountains have a special charm. Since you have only 10 days - I'd suggest to strike off Agra from the list. After your Pondicherry visit, take a flight to Delhi(saves time) from Chennai and travel upwards to Uttaranchal though I feel it might be quite cold now.
Search for Uttaranchal on this website and you'll get a mine of information.Report Abuse
Adding to what I had said earlier hire a CAB from Bangalore go to Salem, Yercaud which is a hill station( Yercauad is called the poor Man's ooty ).
From there you can drive down to pondicherry stay there for two three days. Go to Mamallapuram which is around 2 hrs drive from there with sea side high way and lovely scenic beauty you can enjoy a day or two there.
Then Kovalam and Chennai are also nearby places from there which can take another 1-2 days.
This will make your trip combination of Hills ( Yercaud ), Spirituality ( pondicherry ), Sea and old stone carvings ( Mamallapuram ) and also modern city ( chennai )
This should be a good combination for you for 7-8 days.
Later if he wants to see Taj Mahal then you can catch a flight from Chennai to Delhi and then see Agra in the remaining 2- 3 days
Hurray 10 days completed
I think you can start your journey from Pondicherry.
Day 1: Head to Pondi preferably during night and via train, the nearest railway station to Pondi is in Chennai. From B'lore to Pondi the distance is approx. 400km so it will be an overnight journey. Once you reach Chennai take bus/taxi according to your choice to Pondi, it's about 2 hour journey from Chennai to Pondi. In Pondi you can stay in variety of hotels or in ashram.
Once you reach Pondi in afternoon and if not tired (as you can sleep in train) you can ask for Paradise beach, its a man-made beach.
Day2: Visit Auroville ashram where you can enjoy the scenic beauty of nature. If you get a chance then stay there for the night. For day 3 in the morning head straight back to Pondi and roam on the beach road and market area. Leave Pondi in the evening in the evening and take Chennai express, which leaves to New Delhi at about 8pm.
Day 4: Entire day you will be in the train.

Many thanks to Sonic and Anita!
We are planning to take the train from Bangalore to Chennai and a cab ride from Chennai to Pondicherry. As my American friend is an ardent fan of the mountains, I was thinking of Uttaranchal. Additionally, he also wants to see the Taj Mahal. All of this in 10 days...
Are there any 'mountain' destinations that could be clubbed along with Pondicherry and Taj Mahal?
I agree Pondicherry is in the south of India and Agra/ Rajasthan / uttaranchal are in north so they dont mix well
In case you are coming to bangalore and then travelling to Pondicherry you can cover on the same area
Salem, Yercaud, Pondicherry, Mamallapuram, Kovalam, Chennai in 7-8 days additionally you can go to Vellore, Tirupati who are slightly off track but can cover in the next two days
That will make a 10 day iternary for you in south:-)
pondy is in South India and you are from Bangalore so a few hours drive will get you there. AGRa and Rajasthan probably mix well for a 10 day vacation.
