Answers to travel information on
Dalhousie in Himachal Pradesh
Hi, I think you can give a skip to Dalhousie and visit Dharamsala instead. This way you can start from Pathankot and move eastwards via Dalhousie, Palampur, Mandi and then over to the Kullu valley. Also highly recommended are Gushaini & Shoja in the Tirthan valley. It would be better if you plan for only Kully valley and the Tirthan valley as these are closer. The Dalhusie/ Dharamsala side is a on another circuit and would require a longer time.
My suggestion is that you visit Kullu, Manali, Rohtang, Naggar, Manikaran etc. and on the return journey, you can go to Gushaini & Shoja. Check out if the Jalori pass is open during that time. If it is open, then you can cross over to the Shimla valley and visit places enroute on the return journey. HPTDC hotels esp. the deluxe ones are quite good with good cooks. Its worthy staying there.
I agree with Ripu Daman, in fact some of the properties are better than a 2 star hotel. It would be good if you mention the places you would be stoping for night halt and then we may chip in with some useful info on hptdc and other hotels in those locations...Report Abuse
Some of the HPTDC hotels are really good...and a few of them are even considered premier luxury properties. A good way to find out would be to go in for the HPTDCs hotels listed as 'Deluxe' (on hptdc.nic.in) most of which would be good, but not all of them rated 2 star. Or maybe if you could list out the places you'd like to stay while on your Himachal tour, I'd be able to clearly pinpoint the hotels that meet your requirement.... Another good way to find out 2 star properties in Himachal (both private and state-run) would be to go through the hotel-reviews on this very site.. or logging onto a web-booking engine like makemytrip.com... all the best..and write back if you need more info Report Abuse
Thanks for the guidance.
It will help me in planning my itinery.
How are the HPTDC hotels ? are they good ? will they be eaual to at least a 2 star property ?Report Abuse
See..if you look up the Himachal Yourism's website you'll find that they've divided the state into various tourist circuits based on geographical and cultural similarities... It's best if you chose to stick to a circuit and try and cover as many places on it rather than aiming to switch between circuits like wanting to do Manali and Dalhousie on the same trip. As Mukesh has suggested covering Manali (Beas Circuit) and Dalhousie (Dhauladhar circuit) on the same trip will eventually get too taxing...as you'll be spending a lot of time travelling between places rather than stopping and visiting places... you'll a spend a lot more on travel and end up seeing too few spots plus it'll be a lot more hectic... log on to hptdc.nic.in toget a gist of what i'm suggesting..and all the best!!!Report Abuse
Hi SV, Himachal is beautiful and in a 8-day tour, you may visit a number of beautiful places. Since you are already have Kullu Manali & Dalhousie on your itinerary, I'll suggest you add places which are close to these destinations. Dalhousie and Manali are in two opposite directions, so you have to plan your itinerary wisely. You may include Khajjiar and Chamba (close to Dalhousie) and depending on the route you want to take for Manali, select the places accordingly. It would help me suggest further if you put down your rough itinerary . For accommodation I'll recommend HPTDC properties (advance booking is advisable)...Hope to see you with your inputs.
