You must have read a lot of travelogues on Manali to Leh drive so I am not going to write details of distances and milestones but am going to present our mindset before and while taking the journey.

As we ha heard a lot about LEH, four of us college friends in our mid and late 30's decided to do the trip. We booked ourselves with a jeep tour of Banjara Camps and started our trip on 29th July, 2011. It was sure raining like hell with floods all over. We just prayed to let us through as we thought we would be safer in LEH than in our way which passed through flooded areas of Ambala, Kulu Valley etc. But we were about to be proved wrong.

We reached Manali on 30th morning and checked into Hotel Mayflower. This is a beautiful hotel with huge rooms and a lot of wood work. The location is also not very far from the Mall. It is just a 300-400 metres form the Banon Resort or the Johnson's Lodge, the more famous landmarks. We met our driver and were told that our Innova would be in pretty good condition. It was cloudy the whole day with barely any sunshine. We collected some cakes from the German Bakery and waited...

So we started our journey to LEH on 31st morning and it was rain and fog all over. The route till Rohtang Pass was ok but wait. As soon as we crossed MARHI, the palce from there the loops to Rohtang Pass start, we were caught in a massive jam triggered by small landslides (good luck) and the fog made it worse. We were told that there was a 12 hour jam the previous day. There was line if innumerable trucks and taxis stuck there and we decided to move on foot, cross the Rohtang Pass and then take a lift till Jispa where we were to stay that night. The Cab would join us there later when is comes out of the jam.

TO BE CONTINUED ...............

Hey AV, I started reading this with high expectations but sadly the log looks too short or may be incomplete...great if you could share more...

Also, some facts are misplaced in the last paragraph...please check..
