Named after the five hills that surround it, Panchgani is one of the few relatively unknown paradises of Maharashtra that is slowly demanding its due. Located some 4400 ft in the Sahyadri ranges, the hill station has more to it than just its famous boarding and residential schools. With its quaint and charming colonial cottages, sleepy hamlets, towering hills, verdant valleys and gurgling rivulets, Panchgani no doubt makes for an excellent weekend holiday.

One Tree point

Panchgani is a small town and there is not much to do except hike down through the many uncharted beautiful paths. Walk up to Parsi Point for a breathtaking view of the Krishna valley or visit the Sydney Point from where one can get a view of the crystal clear waters of the Dhom Dam, and Pandavgad & Mandhardeo. Shooting Point is the site of many film shootings. One Tree point is another interesting place in Panchgani where you can see a single tree growing on a rock at the edge of the land. Tableland, a 4.5 km long plateau said to be the second largest in Asia and Panchgani’s crowning glory is another place of interest. You may also be interested in visiting Devil's kitchen, where the Pandavas are said to have cooked their food.

Rajpuri Caves
Harrison’s Folly and Tapola are popular for water sports. You can also visit Rajpuri Caves famous for the temple of Karthikeya, the son of Lord Shiva and Sherbaug - a botanical garden famous for its amazing collection of Cacti. Sherbaug also has a restaurant and a processed food outlet. If you are tavelling with kids various kids’ activities are organised from October to April. The majestic roadside Bhilar Waterfall located a few km away on the road from Mahabaleshwar to Panchgani should not be missed.

Places near Panchgani

Those looking for short trips outside Panchgani can visit Wai - a historical town 14 km away known for its temples and forts notably the Kamalghat Fort, the Dolya Ganapati Templeand the Kashivishveshwar Temple. Dhom Dam 21 km away is popular for boating. Mahabaleshwar, the lovely hill station is just 23 km away. Here you can visit Mahabaleshwar and Panchganga Temples, Venna Lake, Lingmala Waterfalls and stunning points like Malcolm’s Point, Kate’s Point and Marjorie Point.

If you are a Shopaholic who loves to bargain then don’t forget to check out the Wednesday market or Budh-Ka-Bazaar for some amazing souvenirs; Mapro - for some tastiest jams and marmalades; Roach and Sons- Panchgani's oldest bakery and Kerala Bakery at Wai for some yummy cakes and pastries and yes what ever you do don’t forget to try out some of the strawberries found there.
