This is the worst Hotel that I have ever come across. I travel three times a year all over India on vacation with wife and also an RCI member. This Hotel is not safe for Honeymoon Couples and Women. On 13th Oct 2009 at around 1.30 AM (night) in the morning one of the husband of a young couple from Lumding, Assam, caught the manager Mr. Udish Nag climbing on a table and filming them and another young assamese couple next room from the ventilators having exhaust fan in the Standard Rooms without any windows. The GM and MD Kamal Agarwal of the Alpine Continental, under whose management the Hotel Lake View Inn comes did not file an FIR against the manager but simply slapped him and sacked him. They compensated the shocked couples with free stay at Alpine Continental. Myself and wife were saved from the MMS because we stayed at Executive room that has a window but no view of the Lake at all. It fortunately did not have a ventilator that faces into the corridor.
The place is at a very posh location close to the taxi stand and alongside a Lake. It stands at the same row as the High Court, Legislative Assembly, Church and opposite to Meghalaya Cooperative bank and State Bank of India Branch with ATM. The GPO is little away. It is walking distance to Police Bazar, Shillong. James the Khasi Taxi Driver arranged by the Hotel had been a wonderful person and speaks fluent English. But for him our trip to Cheerapunjee, Mausigram, Dawki Village close to Sylhet, Bangladesh and the Model Village Maulynngram would not have been so memorable. I am indebted for his loving and laughing nature who took good care of us.
The complementary breakfast was delicious and wonderful, however they do not offer any eggs omelette, boiled or poach. Food is good but we dined mostly at Hotel Centre Point, Police Bazar as the ambience and food was excellent.
Very unsafe for Honeymoon couples, and family with daughters. The Standard Rooms does not have any windows. It smells of damp. All it has is a ventilator with an Exhaust Fan that faces the corridor , above the doors. The staff members often sleep in one of the empty rooms. The security conveniently remains asleep, so that the manager and other staff can film couples in their private moments through the ventilator. They force the couples to take certain rooms close to the room in which the manager hid, by charging exorbitant rates for executive rooms than what is mentioned in the price list, so that they take up those rooms, as it happened with these young couples whose privacy was compromised and infringed upon.
