Tucked in a remote corner of Sikkim, Lachen is a scenic village of Bhutia yak herders called Lachenpas. It is said that they originally came from Chumbi valley in Tibet and the Ha valley in Bhutan, sometime in the 17th century. Lachen is located 148 km north of Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim. Though the village is situated in a far flung area of Sikkim it is easily accessible and has basic tourist infrastructure. Lachen is approx. 180 km from Gangtok.
