Lohagarh is a quick getaway from Mumbai, which appeals to both trekkers and history lovers. Lohagarh is known for the Lohagarh Fort, which is a day long trek. The fort is located near Lonavala. The history of the fort goes back to the times of the Satavahanas, Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Yadavas, Bahamanis, Nizamshahis, Mughals and Marathas. It was in 1648 Shivaji captured the fort but by 1818 the fort fell in the hands of the British.
