Like many cities in India, Jalandhar too has a mythological connection and it is believed that the city takes its name from the demon king Jalandhra. Not many may know about the connection between Buddhism and Jallandhar but according to the noted Chinese traveller – Fa Hien, there were 50 Bodh Viharas in Jalandhar. In fact, it is also reported that the 4th Buddhist Council, which placed Buddha as a God was held in Jalandhar.
One may find traces of history in various nooks and corners of Jalandhar. But with times the city has moved on and today Jallandhar is known for production of sporting goods. One may shop for good quality cricket bats, hockey sticks, basketballs and footballs.
