A variety of regional and international cuisines can be savoured in Shimla including South Indian, Chinese, continental and the all pervading Punjabi. One can choose from dhabas, fast foods joints and hi-end restaurants.
Among Shimla’s specialties are the Sidku or Sidu, Patandey and Luchi-Poti. Sidku is a thick fermented roti of wheat flour made with a paste of opium seeds mixed with either gur or salt. It is eaten with home-made ghee. Patandey are made of very thin wheat flour paste and eaten with dal and ghee. Luchi-Poti is a non-vegetarian dish made of lamb intestines.
