Sonapani was discovered by British army officers from a nearby cantonment, who happened to drink the water from this natural spring while crossing the ridge. And they fall in love with it! One officer, after his retirement opted this place as award to spend his rest of the life and named it “Sonapani Estate” and lived happily thereafter farming & hunting.
Its water is considered pure & perceived to have medicinal properties, and this very attribute gave this place its golden name – Sonapani, ‘sona’ in hindi means gold & ‘pani’ means water.
Sonapani is flanked with oak & rhodendron forest on its left and pine forest on its right. Sonapani is spread over 20 acres of land. Estates host orchards of apple, plum, peach & apricot trees.
Accommodation here is available at the Himalayan Village resort, which besides offering comfortable accommodation in the lap of the nature also offers a host of outdoor activities.
