Kota is an amazing combination of a rich bygone era and modern industrialization town. Lying along the eastern banks of the Chambal river in Rajasthan, the majestic medieval age architecture of Kota includes the untouched wealth of impressive forts, opulent palaces and splendid temples dating back to over several centuries.
The colorful city which still retains its past glory gained importance in the 17th century, when Rao Madho Singh became the ruler. The laid back city has lot to offer but yet remains largely unexplored in terms of tourism. Kota is known for its Chambal Valley Project with its many dams — Kota Barrage, Gandhi Sagar, Rana Pratap Sagar and Jawahar Sagar.
There are quite a few stay options in Kota. Hotel Phool Plaza and Menal Residency are good economic stay options. One can also find erstwhile palaces converted into hotels here. Umaid Bhavan Palace and Brijraj Bhavan Palace are two such heritage hotels, which are good for a luxurious stay. The best time to visit Kota is between the months of October and February.
