Set in the foothills of Mussoorie, the capital of Uttrakhand, Dehradun offers breathtakingly beautiful sights and suitable climate to relax and escape the heat. Located just about 230 km from Delhi, it is an ideal place for a short vacation. Easily accessible by road, train or even by air it provides the perfect retreat from the hassles of daily life.

The city which is now known as Dehradun was founded in the early 18th century. ’Dehra’ means camp and ‘dun’ means a river valley.  It was founded by 'Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji', the founder of the Udasin Sect of Ascetics. The city offers to be a center between many locations like Delhi, Mussoorie, Rishikesh, Haridwar, Roorkee, and Saharanpur. Home to many institutions such as Survey of India, FRI (forest research institution), IMA (Indian Military Academy), it also offers many of the country’s best schools such as Welham Girls’ School, The Doon School etc. It is also famous for its basmati rice and Lychee

It also offers a wonderful experience historically and culturally. It offers many tourist attractions such as Tapkeshawar Temple, Laxman Siddh, Tibetan Temple, Santala Devi Temple and many more. Astley Hall is one of the great places to be if one wants to be in the middle of the city. The Tibetan market and Paltan Bazaar is good for shopping because of their good bargains. Apart from being a destination in itself, it is also close to many hillstations. It is just 36 km from Mussoorie landour. Other closes by hill stations are Dhanaulti and Chakrata.

There is a wide variety of staying options available. There are hotels available in the heart of the city as well as the outskirts where it is much quieter. They suit all kinds of budgets as well. Even for eating out, many options are available. The regular fast food chains are there such as McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Nirulas, and Dominoes etc. Apart from this there are many place available which are exclusive to Dehradun, such as Ellora’s, The Oven etc.
