Sightseeing and Things to do in Jaipur

Last Updated: 29 Nov 2010 7 Contributors

The city of Jaipur is an eternal delight. The city of royal rajputs offers many sightseeing options, from the historical to the cultural. Begin your tour from the old city areas – Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar and the well-curated City Palace and Museum complex. The armory and garment display will leave you wondering if we have descended from a race of giants.

Move a bit out of the city and indulge in the delights of the aptly named Jal Mahal (on the way to Amer Fort). Jaipur lives up to its royal past with its numerous forts and fortifications. Each fort tells its own tales of bravery and wealth – Jaigarh, Nahargarh and the magnificent Amer Fort.

The Pink City does not disappoint in its gardens. Rani Sisodia Ka Bagh is the proverbial oasis of calm within the desert. The Vidyadhar Garden charms with its terraces, murals and art galleries. Bring your kids along to picnic at the newly restored Kanak Vrindavan.

Pink is not the only colour you will find in Jaipur. The famous Bandhini art brings all the vibrant colours of Rajasthan to the city’s streets. Shop for exquisite meenakari and kundan jewellery at the Jauhari Bazaar. One can keep on listing the items for shopping in Jaipur – Jaipuri razais, camel hide furniture, jooties, traditional puppets, miniature paintings, blue pottery, mirror work artifacts…the list is endless. And we have yet to mention the food! Dine at the Amer Fort on dishes prepared by the king’s own Khansama. Make a point of wandering the streets for the famous sweets and chaats of Jaipur.
