Mandi – Rewalsar – Jogindernagar

Another interesting tourist circuit is the Beas Trail that starts from Mandi and takes one to Rewalsar and Jogindernagar. The name Mandi is derived from sage Mandava Rishi, who, the legend has it that meditated on the banks of the Beas. Mandi is a temple town and has about 81 temples. Bhootnath Temple is a popular temple and dates back to 1520. The temple is dedicated to lord Shiva. Most of the temples in Mandi are dedicated to lord Shiva, who is the presiding deity of the Mandi town. Shivratri in Mandi is a popular festival. During the week long festivities, gods and goddesses from different parts of the town descend upon the town to pay homage to lord Shiva at Bhootnath Temple.

Besides visiting various temples, a traveller can trek to the beautiful Prasher Lake from Mandi. A 3-storied pagoda like temple is located near the lake. Rewalsar is approximately 24 kilometers from Mandi. It is known for its beautiful lake, which is revered by Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists. The lake abounds in fish but fishing is prohibited. Rewalsar has three Hindu temples, three Buddhist monasteries and a lakeside gurudwara. Rewalsar also has a small zoo maintained by the wildlife department. Jogindernagar links the Kullu-Manali Circuit with Kangra Valley circuit. It is 56 km from Mandi. Named after Raja Joginder Sen, a former ruler of Mandi state, Jogindernagar is the last point on the 163-km long narrow gauge Kangra Valley rail line. In Jogindernagar, Shanan hydel project on Uhl river is a must visit. It was constructed in 1925 is one of the first hydro power generation stations of the country. Bir and Billing (11 & 18 km respectively) are two popular places that one can visit from Jogindernagar.
