Flowing past the plains of Mysore, river Kaveri enters a turbulent region where it flows through narrow valleys and thick forests. Here, the river enters the hill ranges of Malemahadeshwara Betta by splitting into two and tumbling into a gorge, forming two spectacular waterfalls at Shivanasamudra.
Shivanasamudra also has its place in history. More than hundred years ago, this is where the first ever hydro-electric power station in the country was built, lighting up the streets of Bangalore.
The neighbourhood of Shivanasamudra has many picturesque places along the bank of Kaveri. At Talkad, she treads through a large mass of sand, said to be formed when Alamelamma, a lady from the region cursed that the city turn into sand.
Not far from Talkad is Kokkarebellur, a quaint village which see + more about Shivanasamudra
