This temple is located about 16 km from Trichirapalli on the Trichy-Salem highway. Legend has it that a rishi once indulged in penance so deep that it brought none other than the lord Balaji himself to the banks of the river Cauvery. This is believed to be the origin of the temple Gunaseelam and devotees believe that worshiping the lord here is as good as having been to Tirupati.
